| APRIL 2026 NEWSLETTER |
Happy Spring San Diego! As we move full steam into April, our office is hard at work advancing legislation and engaging with our community here in the district and in Sacramento.

| LEGISLATIVE UPDATE |
I'm proud to share that all four of my bills passed out of their respective committees—an important step forward in advancing protections for workers, improving fairness in our housing market, preserving access to public resources, and honoring those who have served.
AB 2027 addresses the growing role of artificial intelligence in the workplace by ensuring that workers' personal data cannot be used to develop systems designed to replace them—establishing critical guardrails as this technology continues to evolve.
AB 2559 takes on long-standing concrete transparency and fairness for prospective homebuyers.
AB 1954 responds to the increasing issue of third-party brokers purchasing and reselling tee times at municipal golf courses, a practice that has limited access and driven up costs for local residents.
AB 1775 supports transgender service members who were wrongfully discharged, helping connect them with state-level resources and ensuring their service is recognized and respected.
I'm grateful to the advocates, stakeholders, and community members who have helped shape and support this work. I look forward to continuing to move these bills forward in the legislative process.
Summer Olympic Games 2028
I was proud to serve as Co-Chair of the Select Committee hearing on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics on April 6th, an important opportunity to begin shaping California's role in this once-in-a-generation global event.
As we look ahead to 2028, I'm especially excited to see how the Games will uplift communities across our state. The San Diego region will play a key role, hosting Olympic soccer matches at Snapdragon Stadium and bringing international attention, economic opportunity, and community pride to the region.
This moment is bigger than Los Angeles alone—it's a chance to showcase the strength, diversity, and innovation of communities across California. I look forward to continuing this work to ensure the LA28 Games deliver lasting benefits for residents throughout our state.

Cleaning Up San Diego Bay: Major Marine Debris Removal Completed
I'm proud to share that the Port of San Diego has completed a major cleanup effort in the Zuniga Jetty Shoals, removing more than 61 tons of harmful underwater debris from the mouth of San Diego Bay. This project, carried out in partnership with Big Bay Marine Services (TowBoatUS), resulted in the removal of over 122,000 pounds of abandoned and deteriorating vessels that posed risks to both navigation and marine ecosystems.
Protecting our coastal environment was a top priority throughout this effort. Crews conducted careful surveys of each debris site to identify marine habitats and avoid disruption before removal began. All recovered materials were safely transported off Port Tidelands for proper disposal.
This project was made possible by a $1.4 million grant from California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) that I was proud to help secure. The Zuniga Jetty Shoals area has long faced challenges with abandoned vessels, which can leak harmful chemicals and plastics into the water and threaten wildlife.
Investments like this help keep our waterways safe, protect marine life, and ensure that San Diego Bay remains a resource for everyone. I encourage boaters and residents to stay informed and report any hazards or pollution to help us continue this important work.
